The hyperlinks were problematic from the beginning which is primarily the reason we switched from pdf to Ms Word. You should be able to follow the hyperlink by pressing CTRL key + Click. This works for me and what the Office instructions says.

Why are hyperlinks problematic in PDF??
To tell you the truth , I haven't downloaded one newsletter since you started with doc files. Why, simply cause I don't have words.
I say take back the pdf file, or simple write the stuff in the thread instead.

If now pdf is problematic with hyperlinks which I really don't understand, then why not at least save it as a mht file, or better a chm file (Microsoft Compiled HTML Help format)? Here's a nice page with links for chm http://code.google.com/p/htmlhelp/wiki/CHM

Initially Sanket and I planned to write in pdf, but we had switched to Word because the links didn't work how we wanted to. I'll leave it at that. I'll find some program to convert to pdf when I have some time.

OK... I'm not trying to be annoying, I'm just trying to help out.
May I ask how you expected a link to work?

I still don't understand why the newsletters aren't posted in the forum instead. I mean the forum is here for you/us, instead of going to an offsite location to download the newsletter.

Hey GC, No you were never annoying me. I'd be a fool to ignore advice from you.

I don't want to say further about the issue with the hyperlinks because I might risk telling you something which might not be 100% correct.

I think the reason to have a downloadable document is so the member can save it instead of coming back to the forums.
It would actually be easier for me to post here, cause in a document I have to format all the info. I'll see what Sanket says if he comments here.

PDF is problematic, when we just convert a word to pdf file. The hyperlinks don't stay as is & there are problems.

The attachment thing on our forum could be started, but then again. It directs to that adf site. So instead just having a link to mediafire is not bad, after all its a reputed site for hosting. Wink

What do you guys think?

My point is, why even have it as a downloadable file?
This is a forum so why not write the newsletter in bbcode here?

Valid Point, I have to agree with GC on this one. I also have not downloaded a newsletter since they became a .doc file. I can't really stand Microsoft at the best of times mainly been the reason. I think that the much better soloution to this is to just make a Newsletter section and post them all in there. That way, you get an idea of how many people are reading it,and can format it alot better then you can with an MS document.

It's no good putting hours of work it to a piece of work that barely no-one reads. Time is alot more valuable then that and can be put into personal life.

Also, AdFly...
It really does boil my blood, I mean why make us wait. I think it's just a cheap way to get some cash. There are other ways to get cash. Ask for it... if you don't get it, then it's not a community at all. It's just a support base. I mean you guys can't be making much as you have to get 1,000 re-directs to get a lousy $5, we have no where near 1,000 people downloading the newsletter. Hell, we proberly don't have 100 people.

Rant over, back to work Razz

I think if I type the info here there won't have to be any worry of whether the reader has the correct programs, etc. I also agree with the Newsletter section as it can also be easier to chronicle them this way.

It's no good putting hours of work it to a piece of work that barely no-one reads. Time is alot more valuable then that and can be put into personal life.

That's fate of the many thankless jobs in life. Reporters and journalists, teachers and parents put in effort tirelessly sometimes only to find their work by the wayside. Not to say that for the most part these jobs make a difference. The most important thing is that you are happy doing it because that will be the only thing to make a job valuable. If I have to take some time from my personal life doing so, I won't complain.

In life you innocently think you have everything understood, that you know what you are here to do, what life you are supposed to lead.. Things change, things are rearranged; plans are reworked; and roles are reversed. To survive you've got to accept this reality and make the most out of whatever duty (big or small) you are given in life. Smile

The adf site Sanket mentioned I thought was a url shortening service. I can only speak for myself, I don't see any of that money. Some reviews I am reading of this service are saying this is a scam. In the future I plan to discontinue this, I don't want my work to be a part of this and it's disrespectful and insulting for the readers.

To me money only goes so far. Smile
I had to watch as so much of my life has been unfairly ruined by money or by the love of money. Money can't bring back loved ones. Money can't buy health or happiness. All the money in the world and it still would not remove the pain I feel.

Well, thats the point of a newsletter that it could be downloaded as well. Maybe someone who is really interested in knowing about the forum, can take prints of it.

However, i think it won't hurt if the newsletter is put up on the forum post as well.

So Dawn, do you think posting it on the forum as well as giving it up for download is a good idea?

Kind of defeats what's been said. What would be the point if people won't download or can't for some reason.

People would still have to come to the forums to find the newsletters, if you were to have a newsletter section to chronicle all the newsletters it would be more helpful for an interested reader this way.
