Warning: The following image may be upsetting or disturbing to some viewers.
People have reported strange reactions to the following image - including feelings of sadness, horror, sickness or passing out, having strange visitors in the night. The painting may be especially upsetting to children.

Spoiler:

First displayed in a Los Angeles Gallery, Bill Stoneham's infamous painting "The Hands Resist Him" eventually made its way to Ebay.

The Californian artist Stoneham tells of how he painted "Hands Resist Him" in 1972, the boy in the picture being himself, the hands being other lives, the windows/door being a thin veil between waking and dreaming with the small doll like girl being the guide through.

This painting has become known to the public as somewhat of an urban legend - a cursed and haunted picture renowned as one of the scariest pictures on the internet. It can be considered no coincidence that people around this painting have been known to die as it is reported that both the owner of the gallery in which the painting was first displayed, and the art critic who reviewed it, died within one year of coming into contact with the painting.

Those who were in possession of the painting have reported strange occurrences surrounding the painting including the characters being known to leave the painting and threaten the owners. A disclaimer was included with the listing absolving the seller from all liability if the painting was purchased.

What do you think? Could it be the imagination or is there something odd to this painting? Personally, just looking at the painting makes me feel a little uneasy and there was once I felt like the characters (especially the doll) move from the painting.

I can't say I see anything really disturbing about the picture. It is made to look spooky, the dark background, hands reaching from nowhere, and the boy with the high forehead. I feel a bit sad for them. It reminds me of a movie I saw once where the mother sent her four children to live with their maternal grandmother. The woman was a tyrant, never allowing the kids to be kids. The ending was terrible . . ..

Makes me feel good that the boy and the doll are outside the window:-)
