Cross-browser is quite hard, but as per me, the hardest part is making members. e.g. making a registration page and making a login page. Making the pages are easy, but making the PHP Script and the MySQL databases.

Well, registration and logins are easy for me. I have done this on at least half dozens of projects. But thats a part of web development rather than web designing (front end).

The hardest part about learning Web design is that it's not something you learn overnight. I've been building Web pages since 2005, and I still have to look things up to make it perfect , fight with my styles, and rewrite pages. But once it get ready it attract so many visitors.

Getting inspiration. Its quite common for designers to just build a website but you still have to find the right inspiration to complete a website. I view a project like a work of art(and this would be my biggest problem). It takes a long time for me to create a website due to my artistic sense. Smile

The coding isn't that hard. Cross browser stuff (in particular IE) is more of a burden. In terms of design, it's about function and designing to your clients' criteria that usually works out as the most difficult. Then adhering to it.

This is going to be your hardest part, if you haven’t already started on this part. Learning to code HTML and CSS can be pretty frustrating and designing web sites can be even worse. You have to take your time and really concentrate on learning to code the right way. Skipping out on this and just using a WYSIWYG program is only going to kill you later on. Learn the latest tech and keep working at it. Learn all you can about HTML5, CSS3 and JavaScript as your going to know all of those to be successful.

The thing that people often forget (myself included at times) about the web is that it's not a fixed medium, things can be refined and stuff can be added later. It's not like a font for example, once it's out in the wild you have no further control over it.
