How Do I get rid of the white background on the image, and make this look more formal?

Well the white background of the image cannot be removed, because its jpg.
Jpg does not support transparency.

Can you open in photoshop or gimp and then just save it as png?

That is eye grabbing but doesn't suit formality correctly. (Might of just invented a new word: Formality)
