I personally hate GIMP, it's layout and interface is very unfriendly to users.

Well, although Ive dabbled in many graphic editors over the years going back as far as deluxe paint 1 on the amiga, I gota say Photoshop has remained top of my personal list since its birth, and for good reason.
Sure its pricey but as with most thing in life you pay for the quality, and when it comes to quality there is no real other competitor to it. I have experimented with many others including gimp, psp, etc etc but ive always found at some point there will be something that they cannot do that photoshop can do.
I will soon be creating some video tutorials, specificity on how to create web content, and how photoshop can be integrated with dreamweaver , flash etc .. then in time I will do some basics on how to use 3dsmax in relation to creating web-content.. and how photoshop even then is still an intergral part of the process.
In a nutshell, when it comes to web or indeed print / publication graphics, Photoshop is your one stop hub.

Regards
pan

Gimp:

Pros:
A free program.
Can edit the theme to fit your liking.
Updates more often than anything.
Tip of the day displayer.
Takes almost no space.
Everything you use on it is legal.

Cons:
Random shutdowns.
Glitchy.
Saving options suck.
Laggy and doesn't have many options.

Photoshop:

Pros:

Though expensive, not many people are foolish enough to "buy it" if you know what I mean Wink
Has everything you could need.
Can code. (F8)
Professional and epic.
Sleek design and many tools.
Extra layer options for better settings.
Easy save navigation.
Can open multiple images without a new window.
Multiple tools used for helping a tool. (Extra tool for a tool XD)

Cons:
Ram-Eater
Somewhat difficult if you never use it.
Has a tendency to make you go "FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU**"

GIMP is great, but PS wins.
