Sub text : You possibly can't add a sub text in a 16 x 16 px image , could you?
Background color : Anything which matches with the current theme of my forum ,

Things to avoid : Try to make it look plain and a bit nice , I don't want the text to have some dots around it , you know which makes anything look "Un-Cool"?
