First topic message reminder :

The title says it all, do you think webartz needs to ship to a different forum software, either phpbb3 or mybb (more preferred) ?

the other open source forum systems are more popular these days and i guess it would help us gain members who hate forumotion software as well.

cons : Decent amount needs to be paid for the hosting.

If there is no answer from the admins if they rejected or accepted it, then it's still pending or they haven't decided of it yet.

At this current time, I would say no. We have very little active members, so the forum would only end up with around 10/20 members.

Also, the cost of hosting would then need to be found and with around of you only been between the age of 13 and 16, none of you can make a considerable donation towards it. As far as the cheap $10 hosting company, they really not worth it. The down down exceeds the up time and that time is possible registrations. Hence why I now pay $750/pm for my clients websites (Media Temple). However I am getting the revenue that I'm spending back, I take the cost of the hosting and divide it between the amount of clients that I have with hosted sites and the each pay that amount a month.

However the main problem is, the younger the members are the more the older are deterred. Now this is not a dig, it's just a simple fact. At the moment forums are really not the best thing, something like a simple blog is much better and you can control the content and receive better revenue through many descent add company like Carbon Ads, there ad's are really basic and can receive descent styling, unlike google ads.

The only way to gain visitors is to post descent content, without that, A forum/blog/website is nothing.

I'm just going to say in response to that...I use a hosting site that costs very little money and they have had only one down time when they were switching servers. I have been using them for about 6 months now and I know other customers that are very happy with the site. You can get way cheaper hosting for a lot less than $750 a month. Wink

We had already thought about this. Currently, our userbase & features have not grown to a extent wherein we need to shift from Forumotion.

We have lot of credits already in our account for Forumotion & have the ability to use them when required when new features are added.

I never said that you to pay $750/pm, thats what I pay for a descent server to host around 50 sites. If you want very best performace and the least downtime you need VPS, not shared. Simples!

After a few years with forumotion i decide to pay for my own thinking it would be cheaper becasue i was paying like £50 a year to remove the ads, I went with godaddy for around the same price but the server i was on couldn't handle it the amount of taffic i was getting, so i had to buy a VPS server for £300 a year but i do not think that would of last me for very long, But after a few issues i decide to close the hole forum down and had a rest for a year.

paying 2 a month your forum would be very slow & the bills can be huge if your forum get bigs and the only way of keeping it going is covering your forum with ads or ask money from your members but there not many people really to donate.

I voted no because like Sanket said, they thought about it and decided to hold back. I am a massive fan of vBulletin myself, but it costs a lot ($195), plus about $30/m. Then you need to find good hosting. Might I recommend Large Servers for a reliable host?
